Hello - I interviewed for a job this week and have decided I don’t want the job. Not sure if I should withdraw my application or just decline an offer (if one comes). They said they will be making a decision before the end of the month. What do you think? Thanks

Is there a circumstance in which you might take it? For example, if they offered more money, would you take it? If so, I'd just play the ball with them. Wait for the offer, and respond with "I'm going to need another $25,000 in order to come on board". Either way, it's no loss to you.

That’s a good idea, but I don’t think more money would make a difference. I work as a buyer and learned during the interview that I would be their only buyer (have always worked in a group of buyers). I just don’t think I’d enjoy working in that kind of environment. Thanks

I don't think it matters much which way you go.

You can't decline what you haven't been offered. Keep looking an if an offer comes simply thank them but say that you are seeking an opportunity that would be a better fit. That way it won't be burning bridges.
If by some miracle they ask how they could fit better, have you list by your phone. You never know, they may be willing to make concessions if they really want you.

Gotta ask, are you afraid you can't do the job by yourself?? It seems going from being one of a roup, to the ONLY buyer might be a promotion?

I can do the job, but it would be more stressful. It wouldn’t be a promotion, just a better work location.

I’m inclined to think this, too. Thanks

Decline the offer should you get it. If you hear nothing back, don't worry about it.

I think it depends on how well you think you did on the interview. One company I was interviewing with I had a great feeling about. I knew I didn't want the job, so I emailed and withdrew my application. IMO it was the professional thing to do in case they were considering me and I was taking an opportunity from someone else.

If you absolutely know now there is no way you would take the job, and you wait for an offer, you are wasting their time & resources, and other good candidates would be rejected because you delayed in notifying them. Of course, other candidates could be called back, but the bottom line is your lack of regard toward this company's time. I wouldn't want you on my team with an attitude like that.
