Sitting and waiting for an offer is a "little hell", don't you think? (job hunting, interviews)

I was long-term unemployed (3 years almost to the day), lived out in the sticks, finally got a part-time job, moved back into the city, got laid off AGAIN after 10 months, and now have once again been job hunting for the past 6 months.
I've been through the whole gamut of emotions and stress, as most of us have.
But I think the absolutely HARDEST PART of this process is the sitting and waiting and HOPING for a call and an offer after you've interviewed for something you really, really like and want!!
I mean it is the TOUGHEST PART!
It's like, "did I win the lottery or not?" A fifty-fifty chance at having a life again, paying bills, not fearing eviction, having food to eat, having a car to drive, and on and on.
I try to put my mind in a calm, neutral place but it is difficult.
Just the waiting is agony. Everything I do to keep my mind busy is colored by the expectation and the waiting which could drag on and on for days, weeks, or never have any closure!
How do you deal with this?
Thought it might be nice to share coping strategies with others...
When I was unemployed, my daily "job" is to search for and secure job interviews and not worry too much about whether someone will make me an offer. After interviews, I kept up my daily "job" routine as if nothing has happened.

Been there, done that a bazillion times...
Difference here is that THIS job is one I really want for a variety of reasons I don't want to go into here
Glad you have a tough hide and don't get exasperated. Good for you!
I take walks, go get a cup of coffee, workout, write my feelings in a journal, call a friend. I try to get out of the house everyday and not just sit and obsess over possible call backs because it makes me crazy.

Yeah, me too! Hiking, cooking, reading, watching old DVD movies, and consuming CHOCOLATE all help!

I was unemployed twice for over a year each time and been turned down for jobs I -really- want as well.
It helps to have a routine each day - coffee, job search, go walk the dog, lunch, job search, watch TV, job search, volunteer a couple of hours, goof off on C-D, dinner, job search, watch TV, etc.
Oh, btw, in case you haven't heard this before: "You're our top candidate" means absolutely nothing.
