Do employers like it.... (applying, interview, application, job)

Do employers like it when people call asking if a position the person applied for is still available and letting them know they're still interested?

I've had a steady job for 5 years now, so I'm not too up to date on what employers like or dislike when it comes to people applying for a job. I applied for one on Tuesday and was thinking about calling this Tuesday to see if it's still available and to let them know I'm still interested and willing to relocate. Also, should I wait a little longer to call, or does a week after applying, sound good?

You will most likely be talking to HR and not the hiring manager, HR will not have any say in who they pick. I would always suggest calling before the deadline to make sure your application was received, when applying online or by mail. No need to remind them you are still interested. They assume so unless you are called for an interview and turn it down. Be patient, it may be a week or two after the deadline to apply before they make calls to those getting interviews.

Well I applied on the last day of the deadline. So it's already closed. So far the status of my app says "Still under consideration". But I'm worried they'll see where I'm from and not even look at it after that. There also was a contact name and number for this listing. I just hope that they see I'm from a different state and take into consideration that since I applied to where they are, that I'm willing to relocate.
