The price is high according to the Blue Book, but they were basing it on models with "average" miles on them. I'm not sure what the price should be with this lower mileage.
Find some comps. The old XJ8s are going through a bit of a resurgence in popularity as they still look like Jags. It's high but for a clean mint condition one with low miles is going to sell for a big premium. Up to you. You can find a more normal mileage with regular wear and tear for a 16-year-old car for $5,000-6,000 easy enough. Double is more than I'd pay but clean ones with low miles do sell for a big premium, maybe not that much though. If it's really in excellent conditions, as in you could detail it and take it to a car show, I'd offer $9,000 if you really want one in good shape. If you don't really care just go buy one with 100,000 miles that's not to beat up for 5-6k.
I was also thinking $9,000 is a more realistic price.
The thing is, I would maybe only keep it for a couple of years and then trade into a new vehicle. I just thought it would be fun for a while, though I do worry about maintenance on a Jaguar.
It is a gorgeous car though. I have always been attracted to Jaguars that look like Jaguars.
If I wasn't concerned about the potential cost of maintenance, maybe I'd keep it for fun and drive something else daily. On the fence.
Sounds high to me. Also check if the timing chain tensioners have been replaced. They may have fixed them by 2002my.
The tensioner issue affected 1998-2001 models. After that, they had metal tensioners (I had a '99 that I had to have replacements done in).
