Dion, this is a HUGE spread out city, there are no easy answers to your question !

But I would start here......

Find the job first. There's a good chance your job will be located Downtown, in Baymeadows, or in the general Southside. You just never know for sure where you'll end up, but a large percentage of the jobs are located in one of these three areas.

Once you know where you'll be working, then you can vector out from there to find housing. It really is the best approach. We have 7 bridges and 3 surrounding bedroom communities traveling in and out every day. Not knowing where you'll be working can make recommending a place to live difficult .

To echo what riveree said you should work on the job first... The great thing about JAX is that there are nice places to live almost everywhere around JAX so typically your job dictates where you will live...

As for job market overall things aren't great but two fields that I know for a fact are the medical field and the IT field (Developers, Engineers, not so much the other support jobs like analysts, Configuration Management, etc...)

I lived in Riverside and Southside..and Southside was easier because many jobs are near by. When lived in Riverside I was wasting money on gas. I enjoyed walking around Riverside but first find a job then decide where to go.
