My husband and I are moving to Jacksonville in the next 4-6 months. He has a job and will be working downtown, I don't have a job yet but I am a therapist and will need to work at a hospital. We don't necessarily want to live right in Jacksonville, we would actually prefer to live closer to the beach. Does anyone have any advice on nice/safe areas to try to find a house? We don't know ANYTHING about the area, so I'd appreciate any info anyone has to offer.

The Southside and Intracoastal west areas will have you 15 miles or less to the beach.
This is a nice and safe area.

There are 3 main roads that go from the Intracoastal area to Downtown
JTB-Rt 202 - highway no lights
Beach Blvd - Lights
Atlantic Blvd - Lights

Depending on traffic and the time your husband leaves the trip downtown would be 20 to 35 mins at the least.
There are many hospitals in this area Baptist South, Baptist beaches, Mayo , St Lukes

Depending on your budget you would have many neighborhoods to chose from.

Most of the areas East & South of the St. John's river are "nice & safe". Though these terms are highly subjective. Just avoid most of the Arlington / Regency area.

I would suggest the beaches-Atlantic, Neptune or Jax Beach. They have a hospital as well and several within 20-30 minutes drive. You can also check out the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office website to seach crime statistics for the area-not a sure fire way to check, but will give you some idea.
