I work in IT and am considering finding a new job in Jacksonville and living in either St Augustine or Ponte Vedra. I do not mind a 45 -50 minute commute. Are these areas a reasonable commute to Jacksonville ? I would love to be close to the beach and the city. Thanks.

If 45-50 minutes is okay with you, then yeah, that would open up Ponte Vedra as a possibility.

Ponte Vedra is far enough north in St. John's county, but other beach parts of St. John's county might be too far. I'm thinking of areas like Anastasia Island in St. Augustine - great spot, but the commute would almost certainly exceed 50 minutes.

There are also beach communities right in Jacksonville itself - Atlantic Beach, Jax Beach and Neptune Beach. These are due north of Ponte Vedra Beach (they all run together vertically).

Would the commute exceed 45 mins though? I think it might...both nice and quiet beach spots though.

when we lived in North Ponte Vedra, if my husband was on the road by 7 am he could be downtown in 30 mins. You want to try to stay as close to JTB rt 202 as possible the road to JTB A1A is 35 mph so thr farther nort you go the more time to add to your comute. There are some nice apts right around JTB and Ponte vedra lakes Blvd . there are also some patio homes in the same area the Islands at Ponte Vedra. they run around $200k

ATLBound
Imagine east of downtown as a big square
There are 3 roads that go from the beaches (east to west)
JTB(rt 202) highway
Beach Blvd(lights and a lot of construction right now)
Atlantic Blvd(lights)

Now the roads that go North and South and intersect the above streets are
(east to west)
San Pablo(this area is just over the intercoastal)
Hodges
Kernan
St Johns Bluff(also known as 9A)
Southside Blvd

Here is an idea go to mapquest
put in starting Ponte Vedra beach and ending Jacksonville Fl 32202 this will bring up a nice map that will show you the route to downtown.
It will also show you the streets I mentioned.
let me know if this helps
I will pm you the link I got from mapquest

Default commute ?

You really have to ask yourself why you would want to commute from here. Traffic conditions on 95 are worse than ever with the 5 year + construction plans.
