By itself its around $52, but you get a $10 discount (I believe) if you have any kind of cable service with them, even the bottom of the line $12 service (which they never talk about).

No, its not static, but there's ways to cope with that with free DNS services & a bit of software for your PC/Mac.

No, they don't throttle torrents here. They do in some locations, but not here in Jax that Im aware of. Mine are wide open.

Oh, and I dont believe you can technically host a site with that plan since its not a business plan. But, that doesnt mean you cant set up an "always on" computer & use a little DNS magic to get what you want. Just as long as you're not trying to serve up huge files for the masses then I dont think they would mind (or even find out). A regular personal webpage that gets moderate traffic would be fine I'd imagine.

bittorrent is no okay with comcast in the most general sense.
But Comcast is your only choice for highspeed internet in JAX. No Verizon FIOS here. ATT is the phone company here.

Am I on the wrong plan?

I have Comcast's High Speed Internet and they break it down like this:

Comcast Internet Service $42.95
Modem Rental 3.00
Includes $15.00 discount for Comcast subscribers

So the total comes to $45.95

So can I get a higher speed for a few dollars less than what I'm paying now?

The $52.95 already includes the discount for subscribers. (as you stated above for your plan)

Yup. Thats the discounted price. I believe its in the mid $60s without a cable plan, so might as well get the $12 dollar cable plan if your intention is ditching cable TV, which is what I've ultimately done because it stinks.

Netflix subscription (with DVDs & streaming online movies/shows) + sites like Hulu + torrents = Cable TV goes bye bye.
