I heard a while back that the Palm Valley Fish Camp people were working on putting in a new Fish Camp style rest. at the old New Orleans Cafe. It looks like work has been halted for quite some time. Does anyone know what happened. I am thinking as they were working perhaps they realized some major repairs were needed an maybe they backed out.

Too hard to get into and out of that location especially when driving north on SR-13.

Lightning struck the building and caused some damage to the electrical equipment. The damage wasn't all that significant, but it was kind of the straw that broke the camels back for the New Orleans Cafe. The restaurant was losing money and I think the owners just got tired of dealing with one issue after another.

The new owners signed a lease several months ago. It's going to be a Fish Camp type of restaurant. At one point it was scheduled to open in April, but obviously that hasn't happened yet. We keep our sailboat in a slip at the Bull Bay Marina and are anxious for the restaurant to open. We used to love to sit outside on the deck at the New Orleans Cafe and have a drink after sailing.

So what exactly is a "fish camp" type of restaurant?

Totally agree. The restaurant had to serve a certain percentage of food vs. alcohol to maintain their license and avoid the insanely expensive cost of running a bar. The food was obviously an afterthought.
