I'm not familiar with the hardiness of St Augustine grass, but my lawn looks pretty stressed right now. I'm guessing that the soaking we got wasn't very good for lawns? Mine is still soggy in places.

Is there anything I should be doing, or is this type of grass hardy enough to make its own comeback?

It shouldn't still be soggy .

I haven't watered mine at all since we had this rain and mine isn't stressed either (though I'll take a closer look tomorrow and if it needs water, it will get some this weekend).

Sounds like you have some low spots maybe? That would at least explain the sogginess. The best thing for low spots is:

1) Buy bags of clean, pest-free sand - the kind they use in sandboxes, not levelling sand.

2) Slowly build up the area. This can take some time, you really only want to fill with an inch or so of sand, wait a few weeks or so, fill a bit more, continue as needed. Doing it this way will allow the grass to grow up through the sand.

Something to consider......if your soggy area is near a neighbor's sprinklers, that might explain it. I had an unexplained soggy area once, and it turned out my neighbor's sprinklers were coming on 7 days a week and watering a chunk of my lawn! That's what happens when you have an illegally installed irrigation system . I alerted the neighbor and he had his irrigation system corrected (had a rain gauge added too ).

The stress might be that your lawn needs a feeding - it's a good time right now to do so. If you DIY, check out Milorganite - it's great stuff .
