What one thing would you be willing to pay more taxes for, in order to make Jacksonville better?

Schools?
Roads?
Ferry?
New Courthouse? Ha Ha
Public transportation?
Development of waterfront?
More police?
Less police?
Stricker enforcement of driving laws?
Downtown revitalization?
Or add one of your own.....

Schools ~ Yes.
Roads ~ No.
Ferry ~ Yes.
New Courthouse? ~ Newer than the new one we can't even use now? No!
Public transportation ~ The current JTA, No! A leaner more efficient transpotation system, Yes! Including light rail and trollies
Development of waterfront ~ Yes.
More police ~ No.
Less police ~ Why pay more for less?
Stricker enforcement of driving laws ~ If you meant stricter, then yes.
Downtown revitalization ~ No.

Or add one of your own..... One thing I would pay a little more taxes for, would be to clean up one of our major natural attractions ... The St Johns River

The ONE thing in my opinion would be Public Transportation. That's not JTA per se since JTA manages public transit as well as the roads (one major flaw in our local system) So, more taxes should go to the public transit side of JTA. (Although I could agree with madcap's implication that the JTA as an entity stinks)

Other important things that you suggested really shouldn't be the responsibility of tax payers, except police, schools and roads. But those aren't as high priorities imo.

Well, the ONE thing would be the public education system.

The percieved, and in some cases real, flaws are really the only thing driving the unsustainable suburban sprawl in St. Johns County.

Downtown revitalization. I believe there's a "trickle out" effect.

Or... how about a major cultural attraction downtown... i.e. Atlanta's aquarium.

Schools-absolutely (to include extracurricular activities)

Ferry- don't know the area yet, but sure

Public transportation- I am all for not having to have a car!

Development of waterfront-definitely

Downtown revitalization-depends on what they want to revitalize (I am on board with the aquarium idea)

A big casino which will draw people into downtown and spawn a whole lot of other entertainment venues. Not to mention revenue intake. Orlando has casinos, even Tampa has casinos and they are no more corrupt than we are without one.

I know this will offend some of you baptists and puritans! lol.

I would have to agree that this is most likely the number one aspect of attracting both business and people downtown. As it stands now there is still a very strong pull for the Southside for business and those clamoring for the Saint Johns school system. All over the US downtowns are flourishing but we continue the suburban sprawl outward of the city.

I would also like to see the shipyards property transform to a Place like Grant Park in Chicago, a real children's museum and a better way of transportation to tie the Landing, sports complex, Prime Osborne, Riverside, Springfield and Avondale all into an easy to use connected 24/7 transportation system.

After all these years and many trips to San Diego I still believe Jacksonville is setup or the way it is situated could easily duplicate San Diego's success.

One can dream
