What kind of handicap? It's possible to walk to lots of things at the beach but it might take a good bit of walking. Many people bicycle too if that's an option.

Walking is fine, my Genium Bionic Prosthetic device works great, in fact I can still pass the USMC PT test running a sub 20 minute 3 miles. The only problem I have is going straight thru the turns because of a lack of ability to see them. Its a vision problem, I am not totally blind but its not great anymore. That's why I can't drive, When the IED went off it scrambled some vision circuits, and messed up my vertigo seriously.(really officer I was bombed, but I am not drunk)LOL So walking is fine. I basically walked half the way from Atlanta to here. Hitch hiking sucks to a certain degree the cane does help though. I don't really think a bike would work as that's all balance. Thanks for the info all is appreciated.

Default update

Hello all,
Thanks for all your responses. I wanted to return to the thread and post a quick update as I hate reading so many of them that do not have an 'ending' since the original poster never returns. Well, here goes...after a lot of back and forth, few visits and lots of comparisons we decided not to move after all. It was not an easy decision because of the job opportunity that was quite lucrative, but we simply could not leave everything that we have here in SF and the Bay Area. After few months of living with that decision, we couldn't be happier....Home is where the heart is to end it on a cliche note. Thanks again, I really did enjoy reading all your perspectives...
