So I'm moving to Jacksonville from NYC...was wondering which areas I can consider if my company is located in deerwood?

Anybody lived in ny before moving to jacksonville? what culture shock will I experience?

Thank you.

You can consider any area you want.

Just depends on what you're looking.

So, what kind of accommodations and/or neighborhood or you looking for?

I'm in my mid twenties looking for condo/apt with gym and facilities. I like bars and restaurant but also don't want be too far away from my company at 5022 Gate Pkwy. Would you suggest any area?

Thinking not to buy a car and see if I could work around it. So closer the address is the better

Thank you for your answer Jacksonville people are awesome.

There are several condos right around the corner from where you work. Burnt Mill Road has three, Brightwater, The Reserve at James Island, and Heritage. You will be right near shopping and restaurants. If you go further down Gate Parkway there are several more condos, one near the mall called Georgetown, one in the mall- Esplanade (gets mixed reviews), several right on Gate Parkway, Aventine, and some others I don't remember the names. One nice area is also Tapestry Park, it has its own restaurants and walking area. All of them are really nice and in close vicinity to your job.

I grew up in Jacksonville, but lived in NYC (Upper West Side) in my twenties.

Here are just a few things I noticed moving back to Jacksonville:

• Having to drive everywhere, but I'm sure you're expecting that already
• How much local people tend to favor chain restaurants, but I think that's slowly changing
• Neighbors (and strangers) will politely greet you, hold the door for you, etc.
• Not as ethnically diverse
• Many places close way before midnight
• Fashion clothing selection is limited (or so my wife says)

Now I know there are exceptions to this list, but this is what I have noticed from my own experience. I think you will like living in/around Deerwood Park. My wife made it a point to find us a place near work and it's worked out very well for us.

I am originally from NYC and now live in Southside area and love it. If you are looking to buy I would look into Tapestry Park, nice condo's with shops, and Town Center is a short drive away.

Did a quick search.. there are some condo's for sale..

Also you have the Tattersall apartments.

You really can't live here without a car unless you're in a nursing home or willing to limit your life very dramatically. At your age - I suspect that neither of these things applies . Robyn

You will need a car, even if you do live close enough to work to walk. Getting around for anything else will require your own vehicle.

There are many many condos and apartments right around your workplace. Most of them are new and very nice. I'd lean towards Tapestry Park/Tattersall because of the walkability to stores/restaurants/movie theater or Deerwood Place/Montreux for walkability to grocery store, but everything is in close proximity so if you have to hop in your car it would just be a couple-minutes drive.
