Any recommendations for a good place to get steak (and other food) in the C.R./I.C. area? My in-laws are coming to town and this is my father-in-law's favorite food. Many thanks!

Joseph's Steakhouse on Clinton near the Old Capitol mall gets good reviews, although I've never been there myself. When I was living in the area, I was a starving student, so the closest I ever got to steak was the Arby's at Coral Ridge...

If you're willing to go a little further afield, you might want to consider something like the Ox Yoke Inn in the Amanas. And if you're feeling really adventurous, maybe try Rube's Steakhouse in Montour. It's about an hour from C.R. in a "blink and you'll miss it" little town, but it's totally worth the trip. They have arguably some of the best steaks in the state, if not the country.

Yeah, Joseph's is the only place I know of in IC that really bills itself as a steak place (aside from chain places like outback, texas roadhouse, etc). Do plan to spend some money if you go there, as I've heard its pretty expensive. Haven't been there myself.

Otherwise, there are lots of other great places in IC...Devotay, 126, Giavanni's, and a host of ethnic places just to get started!

I also always recommend the Lincoln Cafe in Mr. Vernon (foodisimportant.com north of IC and east of CR). Some of the best food I've ever eaten. In fact, I had a steak there that was amazing, but their entree menu changes weekly.

Default Thank you!

Stavemaster: Thanks for the recommendations! I might try the Amanas--I don't think we've ever taken the in-laws there. Although I've never had steak there; always noodley dishes . Joseph's sounds great, but I think after looking at some reviews that it's probably not a good idea since we will have the kidlets in tow.

1stpontiac: We love the Lincoln! We actually live in Mt. Vernon and Matt's a genius, so that's our go-to spot for most special occasions. But FIL specifically requested steak and there doesn't happen to be a steak dish on the specials at the moment, alas.

I always tell people to go check out Lincoln Cafe, but most people don't quite get around to making the drive up there. Their loss. We've been skunked the last two times we planned to go there: went once without realizing how long their wait list is on weekend nights, and then planned to go on a Sunday before checking online and seeing they weren't open for Sunday dinner.

Another possibility might be the Iowa River Power Restaurant in IC. I've not had the steak there, but the shrimp I had was pretty good, and their menu lists some good-looking steaks: Welcome To The Iowa River Power Restaurant Also just a fun location to sit and look over the river, especially as everything greens up!

Default go for iowa river power!

I've definitely had great steak at Iowa River Power Company...kids are probably ok there but you can also eat in their associated bar, Flannigans...same quality food. I've eaten at both and had a good experience every time.

i'd go along with the Power Company because the steaks, like other food, is great....and you can't match the view and the special atmosphere.

Grew up a mile from Power Company, it's a nice atmostphere/good food. I'd also go with Amanas as an opportunity.

Thanks, folks, we did end up going to the Power Company and it was a great choice. FIL liked his steak and it worked well with the kids. We had been there for brunch, but not dinner, so I didn't think of it. I think we will try the Amanas when they have more time, since it is a longer drive. Thanks again for all the ideas!

Thanks for posting back with how it went! I think we'll have to hit the Power Restaurant one more time before we leave town, now.
