NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Google is planning to foot the bill for WiFi at 47 of the nation's airports for the rest of the year, beginning Tuesday.

With some travelers spending more time on the ground in airports than on planes during the busy flying season, now seemed an especially fitting time to offer up the perk, Google said.

Google's gift: Free wireless Internet in 47 airports - Nov. 10, 2009

Free WiFi - A 2009-2010 Holiday Gift from Google. There is at least some airports included who already give free WiFi. So BFD, Google.

And isn't it interesting how many of the airports on that list (updated last week, before this announcement) are also on Google's list? Google is providing free wi-fi at airports that already offered free wi-fi!

As I said in another forum here, the next thing they'll offer us is free searches on their web site.

It is rather disingenuous of them to pretend to be giving you something for free. I live in Charlotte and have become used to free Internet at the airport. I get irritated when I go somewhere and it is not available. I can always tether my phone but that is way slow.
