What are your opinions/experiences with different connections for your internet?
We currently have Verizon DSL(daily dropped connections),have tried Comcast Cable Internet(same),FIOS is not currently available in our area due to contract problems...so we were looking at things like HughesNet satellite service.
Comments?
Just a thought but if you have had cable and DSL and both drop daily, maybe it is your router. They can have isssues too. Does it happen if your computer is connected directly to the DSL modem?
Sattelite will be slower with higher latency periods due to the distance it travels for the last mile.
Up here, cable seems to be best with lowest latency period and then DSL.

It's probably not the router b/c when we tried the cable modem it supposedly had the same connection probs as the DSL.
Does the satellite stay connected though? To me speed is secondary as long as I don't keep getting the hourglass and timeouts all the time.
Personally I think you have other problems, DSL and Cable are 2 completely different connection types, if you had the same problem with both I think there's another issue somewhere.
Yes, I agree and I'm a connection expert for at the least the area I live in.. you have other issues or your really f#&$@($ unlucky.. if your really having drops with your comcast modem you can troubleshoot real comcast issues on dslreports.com those guys know what power level means and everything else..
The same goes for your verizon dsl..
The simple way to test if it's your router assuming your not using a connection type router is to plug directly into it.. and if your still having troubles it could be your pc.. try another one to eliminate 2 VARIABLES
Steer clear away from hughes.. that blows..
If you want a long term solution stick with comcast.. they have the network and the ms to stay competitive in the long term see what I said about them.. if you want to save money buy from whoever’s cheapest bare in mind you may need upgrades later youtube and such..

I think your first statement is more like it...we're f****** unlucky
Have you seen those recent cell phone commercials about the 'dead zones'? Well I think that's where we are now if both DSL and Comcast had connection probs! Btw our Dell pc is only a couple years old.
I've never had disconnecting issues with DSL, of course this is when it was first introduced to the USA. Since those days i've used cable and have lovely disconnection issues all the time. Not with the service but with router's going out at random. 5 different brands, 5 different routers. I guess this is what happens when everything is made in china.

Tha age of the computer really means nothing, it can still have problems, don't go by that as to whether it might have a problem or not.
