No, you do not "have" to have a phone for a yahoo email account.
You can use a phone number to get the activation code if you want but that is not required, it can be sent to an email address.

I have 4 yahoo accounts and have had them for years without any issues at all.

Agree... I think you are missing something in the setup stages there.

Do you know ways around this? I am curious.

Whenever the verification notice page has come up, on any site I've encountered, it has a choice of how to receive the verification, by email and either text or phone call(meaning phone number required)
Are you saying you've not been given that choice?

Hmmm stranger and stranger, as old_cold mentioned there has always been choices...

Methinks the OP has other issues besides the obvious...

Browser/display/font etc...

My yahoo.com email account only has one page. Are all of their email accounts only one page? I like to keep certain emails a long time for reference or whatever reason, but when it reaches the bottom of the page it disappears. Does yours have multiple pages or only one?

I'm remembering another page that pops up with only a place for a phone contact ( for extra security) but it does have a check box underneath that says "Skip this "
Maybe that's the hangup?

Ok, so I deleted some of my older email accounts and I still get that "there are too many accounts associated with this number" pop up. Why am I still getting this even after I deleted several of my older accounts?

Maybe it's time we stop playing the 50 questions game and you do some research on your own:

Let me google that for you
