Does Indiana Need Teachers? (Indianapolis: unemployment, schools, tax)

Looking for a vocal music teaching position, preferribly near Indianapolis.. does Indiana need teachers, are they hiring teachers? Right now Michigan has a very bad educational budget, so looking for a place close to Michigan for a vocal music position but not too far away.

I just saw on the news today about Indpls laying off a bunch of teachers and trying to cut the budgets like crazy. :/

The states hiring teachers are the more rural states, which don't have as much unemployment and a lower number of people on welfare.

I know for a fact that schools in SD and ND are hiring, though that was just in two larger cities in each state.

Indiana had stiff competition for teacher BEFORE the recession. Now, it is even worse as IU, Purdue, and Ball State keep pumping out new grads even though there are many teachers out of work.

And the tax situation and budget constraints just now being felt are going to make it much much worse for job seekers in education.

The average age of Indiana teachers is very high and in the next few years is expecting a shortage as they retire.

does Indiana NEED teachers??? Heck yea!!!! We need great teachers, but are we going to get them? Heck to tha no! This year is going to be bad enough for teachers ... next year is going to be the killer year for teachers.
