Has anyone ever taken a taxi from the northeast side to the airport round trip? I'm just wondering whether it is cheaper to drive my own car and park it at the airport for 3 days, or take a taxi. I live just inside the 465 loop.

Never done it, and I live in Fishers. That said, the economy lot costs $9/day, so I'd bet $27 airport parking would be much, much less than a roundtrip cab fare.

Effective September 1, 2009, cost for Economy Parking is $9 per day (one day equates to each 24-hour period). Cost for a taxi will depend on how many miles it is from your front door to the airport. Yellow Cab charges a $3 pick up fee, and fare will be about $2 or so per mile and most charge a "waiting fee" of 40¢ - 50¢ per minute. In addition, some cab companies will ding you 35¢ - 40¢ per mile if your trip is under a certain number of miles. All in all, it would probably be cheaper for you to drive.

Let's do the math. If you live right inside the loop, for estimation purposes I will call that 75th and Allisonville.

Per Broad Ripple Village Taxi's website, the current fare is $3.75 + $.40 per 1/5th mile or 2 dollars a mile. Let's assume 5 minutes of waiting at $.40 per for an additional $2. You are looking at a 30 or so mile drive from NE Indy.

30 x 2 = 60 + 2 + 3.75 = $65.75 one way.

Seems steep for a cab ride.

A cab ride of about 10 to 12 miles in most cities in this country cost right around $30 to $40.00. That does not include the tip that most every driver expects on top of the outrageous cab fare. The moment you get in the cab the meter already reads $3.00 to $4.00 depending on the cab company. Then it is usually $2 to $3.00 per mile. As grandma in waiting mentioned there are other litte fees some cab companies stick in there. Its better to park in the economy lot for the $9.00. Remember if you take the cab to the airport, you will be taking one home on your return and paying that ripoff fare again.

I use to have to take cabs frequently on buisness trips, but my employer paid the fare. I was shocked when I would see what the fares would be for such short trips. I would never take a cab when travelling for pleasure. Enjoy your trip.

Even downtown it was $25 one way minimum to the old airport.

Check out airport limos too.

That sounds fancy, but they are multipassenger runs, and can be cheaper than parking.

That reminds me of my first cab ride in 1986. I was fresh out of Air Force basic training. Omaha was my first assignment. The cab driver picked me up from the airport and took the "scenic" route. I had a set amount of cash on me. I can't remember the final bill but remember I only had enough left to buy a pack of smokes when he dropped me off.

I'd say the other posts are dead on for cost. I just took a 9 mile ride in a cab last week in Las Vegas which cost around $24 plus tip. I would assume with Indy not having nearly as many cabs/competition as in Las Vegas, that the price there would be at least the same if not higher. My ride actually might have been more, but the cab driver actually turned the meter OFF because we got stuck in traffic on the interstate for around 3-4 minutes. That was super nice, and I couldn't hardly believe it.
