Why don't we have a Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops or IKEA in Indianapolis?

There isn't an IKEA in the entire state of Indiana. Ohio has one, Illinois has two, California has EIGHT, and 20 other states have at least one.

I think Carmel would be a great location for IKEA.

Ikea will never happen. If it does, I'll eat my notre dame hat and post the video.

There was supposed to be a Cabela's in Greenwood, just off 85, but then pulled the plug right after the crash.

Why do we feel as if we have to have such stores in the Indy area?

Besides, they are considered destination stores that don't want too many in close proximity to one another. IKEA is already in suburban Cincy (peddling a bunch of cheap eurocrap, IMO), Cabela's is in Hammond, and BPS has stores in Jeffersonville and Michigan City.

Judging by the fact that Cabela's has planned to open stores in Colorado and Texas despite owning a giant plot of land in Greenwood; that they are trying to sell, it seems Cabela's is not in metro-Indy's future.

This information means the ammo shortage in the Indy area will continue into perpetuity!

I think Wal-Mart has this area covered for guns and ammo, thank you very much. We don't need no fancy pants stores with I-talian names.

Walmart sells minimal guns, and only long guns. The ammo shortage has affected everyone, including Walmart. Having another big dealer would just mean more chances of scoring some practice rounds.

I dunno if they have to be there, but they are convenient to have around. I actually would drive to Chicago or West Chester to visit IKEA one or two times a year. It's not all crap to me, but obviously YMMV. Indianapolis seems big enough that there should be at least an IKEA.

Domergurl, why do you say Ikea will never happen? Just curious because there was recently a thread on the city vs. city forum about which city would get an Ikea first, which I thought was a silly topic in and of itself, but nonetheless I believe Indy was in the lead the last I saw. There seemed to be a general consensus that Indy has the demographics to support an Ikea.

I like IKEA too, and many other people as well because the stores are always busy.
