I don't get what the big deal about IKEA is. You do know that Sauder makes a lot of their furniture, don't you? Sauder, the same put together furniture you see at Kmart.
They say IKEA is cheap. I bought two Sauder bookcases for 19.99 each at Value City a few years before they went under. Now that's cheap. IKEA may be cheap compared to real furniture, but it's not cheap.
One thing working against Indy when it comes to IKEA? No major university in town. Columbus is getting one and they are scouting Cleveland locations as we speak. But sooner or later they'll come to Indy. There are only so many places to put stores and Indy is one of them.
Indy will also get a Cabela's. Columbus has one, and Cabela's is a midwestern company so I'm sure Indy is on their radar.
Field & Stream is the Dick's Sporting Goods version of Cabela's. Maybe you'll get one of those too.

The existing Kroger store will close. Marketplace doesn't do much for me, but they seem to be successful as Kroger is rolling them out in all of their markets. I think they try to locate Marketplace in locations that are somewhat removed from a Meijer, Target or Walmart.

IUPUI, Butler, UIndy, Anderson, Ball State, Marian, Franklin College, DePauw, Wabash; then the two B1G schools that are just a bit further away at around 20 miles more. I suspect the two B1G schools are close enough that IKEA would pull from them. Definitely not as far away as you are implying.
Medical College of Ohio is not a thing anymore.
I am going to go on record of saying; I don't think any of this matters. If Cleveland gets an IKEA before Indianapolis, it won't be because Akron and Kent State are closer to Cleveland than IU and Purdue are too Indianapolis.

Let's see here... It appears Ikea is hesitant to go in CSAs around the 2 million mark. I believe if KC, St. Louis, or Columbus can support one, Indy can also. Cleveland and Indy must be next in line in the Midwest.NO

Curious where this is going to go. I have to guess Exit 210 on 69. I just can't see them wanting to be anywhere but on the interstate. Will it go along 136th St leading to IU Hospital? Considering the fuss area residents are putting up over a possible community sports center along that road I doubt they'd welcome an Ikea. Or maybe the other side of St. Vincent Hospital? My only other guess would be next to Navient at 116th and USA Pkwy. That could explain the realigning of USA Pkwy and the added travel lane from I-69 to there. But would they want to be somewhere without other retail around? Guess we'll find out at 10:30.
