I'm looking for advice for selling a home By Owner in Lafayette, has anyone done this successfully? We've done some improvements with equity and now don't have much to spare. The downside is that I don't think we can pay a Realtor. Is it stupid to list a home this time of year or should we wait until after the holidays? We have a larger home on the south side of Lafayette and we need to get $210,000 for it, I've heard that it's difficult to sell a home in this price range. We have to move to the WL school district, but we are afraid to even really start looking at this point since it may take so long to sell, I don't want to be disappointed if we find something we want. Any suggestions or success stories out there? Thanks in advance!

Yes you can do it but it's getting a little close to the onset of winter which is not a good time to try to sell. Most realtors around Lafayette would probably say 'Wait until spring."

If you do elect to try to Sell by Owner, I hope you have a hard shell trying to deal with prospective Buyers. Some can make some very unkind comments about your home. In other words, be prepared to deal with some vultures.

Thanks for the advice, I was worried that it might be too late to list at this point.

I knew a couple in West Lafayette who wanted to put their home up for sale by owner. They went to a hardware store and bought a small For Sale sign they taped onto their front window. Someone who was looking for a home in that neighborhood drove by and noticed the small sign. He stopped and ended up buying the home.

I know what you mean, I think it's easier to do that over there, at least that's my impression. I might try to find a Realtor to come by and give me their thoughts. I did what I said I wasn't going to do and found a house on the other side of the river that I want! Now I've got to figure out how to sell quickly before it's gone.

Did you find a house yet? I am getting ready to put up our family home in WL for sale and am looking for the "right" buyer. Older home (1930's Colonial) and very flexible closing. PM me for more details.
