Is it true about hiring at the Subaru factory in Lafayette?
We would be willing to relocate from Jackson, Mi.What are housing costs out that way?
Any one tell me what it's like there? Have never been to that area.
Thanks,
Tracy.

Just for a sample of housing costs, 20-30 year-old, smaller, 3-bedroom houses in a good part of town are asking $110-$125,000, and there are a large number on the market, but not all parts of town are good. Unemployment is much lower here than in Michigan. I can't say what is true or not about hiring; contact Subaru.

Both. Most of the crime in Lafayette is petty/property type crime though. It's not really a violent crime area, quite midwestern in that regard. As to the "areas" of Lafayette, I think the poster is referring to the apparent demographic make-up of Lafayette versus W. Laf. Lafayette is considered by many to be a blue-collar environment where W.Laf is populated with Purdue employees and lots of transients, making it appear more white collar than Lafayette. It's all in all a college town really, but anything under 100K in Lafayette would be considered by many as a white trash or iffy area. I'm not saying I agree with that sentiment, I'm just relaying the message as it was portrayed to me while I attended Purdue. Housing is rather affordable in Lafayette, problem is finding a job that pays more than 40K/yr in the area for average joe. Of course that's not a Lafayette problem, thats a United States problem as of late.
