I just accepted a job in town and plan on moving within the next two weeks. I'm very, very excited to move to the area and advance my career.

My question, how safe is Warsaw? I read this article and became a little un-easy. A History of Murders in the Small Community of Warsaw, Indiana - Associated Content

Thanks

I never lived in Warsaw, but did travel there about every other week for work, and drive through much of the city.

For a small town it is rather diverse - at least compared to other towns in the state of Indiana. There are some rather nice areas - some very nice areas - and some areas that aren't so nice.

I have no idea how the schools are, butr overall I think the town is rather safe. I guess I would ask what you are comparing it to

I'm moving down from Ann Arbor, MI. I have considered the whole moving to South Bend / FW and commuting, but have decided just to live in Warsaw. Give it a year, see how I like the city.

I have really wondering about crime rate in general for the area. Are there any specific neighborhoods in Warsaw I should look out for? I was trying to find a duplex around Center Lk. or one of the lakes.

Overall Warsaw is extremely safe with virtually non-existent crime. The article highlights what? - three events over the course of several years?

Warsaw is beautiful and safe and if you get a house on a ski-lake you'll love the lifestyle. My family chose to settle down in Ft. Wayne in a similar situation to yours - the commute to Warsaw from southwest Ft Wayne is about 45-55 minutes, but it is a rather easy drive (my wife and I were used to NY City where I commuted over 1.5 hours each way via a drive/train/walk, then a walk/train/drive home again). I stand by our choice to live in Fort Wayne because there's more to do here for families, but there's nothing wrong with Warsaw.

It would be worth your time and potential small expense to engage a realtor in the area to show you around and help you identify where to and not to live whether it be Warsaw or Fort Wayne (fyi a lot of the Orthopedic company workers also consider living within Columbia City - a half-way point between Fort Wayne and Warsaw).

Warsaw is on the very very conservative side, just so you know.

I now live in KY, but grew up in Northern IN, in Winona Lake/Warsaw area. I can tell you from growing up there that my experience overall was great! The community is great and very accepting to people relocating there from other places. People, in general are very nice and overall quite friendly. There are over 300 lakes in the county which can keep you very busy in the summer months. As far as places to live, look into apartments in Winona Lake. There are some great houses and apartments in Winona Lake. The Winona Lake area is beautiful, by the way IMO. As far as the Warsaw/Winona area being conversative, it is! The fact that the WL/Warsaw area is conservative isn't necessarily a bad thing. In a time in history were one's morals are left at the wasteside, Winona Lake/Warsaw residents still have good morals in general and that is something, I believe to appreciate! Oh, and it is a very safe town/city in general. My family still leaves there doors unlocked occasionally when they are out! Take care and I hope your move goes smoothly. May God bless you in your move to Indiana!

It's a pretty nice town, a little bit too far from lots to do (like Mishawaka) IMO. But it does have a nice small town feel. GL with your move

Default Great Place to Raise a Family

If you find yourself relocated to Warsaw, In, you should consider living in the Warsaw/Winona Lake area. Our family moved from a city 9 years ago and
have never looked back. The lakes provide great summer time recreation, Wagon Wheel Theatre is a top notch theatre in the round with lots of musicals and concerts. There are tremendous restaurants: Cerulean, Noah, Noah, and The Boathouse are wonderful. A large mountain biking area and great road biking opportunities. The people are friendly and inviting. Coffee shops, ice cream shops, Warsaw Cut Glass, The Village of Winona, and churches of many denominations. Grace College, Ivy Tech, and IPFW provide a post secondary education presence. Our children go to Warsaw Community Schools and are excelling on ISTEP and SAT tests. Both kids have had tremendous opportunities to become involved in areas of interest to them in the school and have had numerous excellent teachers. If it's the city you want, drive 50 minutes to FW on the weekends or catch the SouthShore to Chicago from South Bend.
Indy is less than 2 hours away. Warsaw is a bit of a melting pot. You will find friendly people who have lived here all their lives as well as people from all parts of the country and world who are now proud to call Warsaw home.
