I posted this on the Fort Wayne board because it seems like the most obvious place but maybe there are other places to look? My husband is considering a job near Van Buren of 69.

What cities would be less than 50 minutes drive, if that is a reasonable drive on 69 to van buren during rush hour? We like non chain restaurants, up and coming areas with lots of activities for a young family. Established neighborhoods with sidewalks and preferably a downtown to walk to. Definitely a city where people don't know everyone. We aren't really small town folk. We wouldn't want lots of property and like neighbors though.

Parks, great public schools and strong church community are important to us. Thinking house value $125-175k.

Marion and Huntington are the closest but not sure what you want. You really need to investigate. South side of Ft. Wayne would also be doable.

Note: I live in Indy so both of those towns are small town to me. I could not live in either.

Thank you,
I am not a small town person. I grew up in a small town and hated it. When he has been looking at jobs the first thing I do is see if there is a Target near by. Mostly to get an idea of how large it is. Could you live in South side of Ft. Wayne or just not the other two?

I like the south side of FW, specifically those areas in the 46807 zip code. The closer to Foster Park, the better. I have never lived in FW, but I do visit on occasion.

Fort Wayne has three targets, we must be doing something right.

I am an urban person so the southside of Ft. Wayne would be barely tolerable. But way better than the smaller towns in between Indy and Ft. Wayne. I don't want to have to get in a car every time I am interested in going somewhere and suburbs (pretty income/race segregated housing all looking alike) of all kinds make me break out in hives. And I lived in a newly built suburb in NC when we lived there. That was enough to almost give me a nervous breakdown.
