I lived in indy in 2003 for one year. I am now considering making it my permanent home. back then I lived near 52nd and Georgetown. I loved the easy commute to downtown and the closeness to Eagle Creek Park. I noticed that this area is not often recommended when asked good areas to live in indy. has it changed? are the schools poor? I would just like experienced opinions on this area before I relocate.

52nd and Georgetown is close to Lafayette Square area. Although they are building a new Walmart, the area is declining and has a high crime rate. Many more transients. There are some nice looking apartment complexes but I would not want to do all my shopping in the area. Although there are great restaurants and specialty stores.

The commute is easy and it is doable. Just that for a permanent residence, there may be better areas.

Georgetown is riddles with foreclosures from all the cheap cookie cutters they placed there a few years back and offered to anyone with a job. Hate to say this but there's been a constant decline. I would look far west (near the EC Reservoir or even to outlying towns/counties). My parents live in this area (in a subd) for the past 10 years and they've had drug dealing and crime in their subdivision, etc....and it was one of the nicer ones.
