Hello.... need help. We are moving to Southern IL and I am looking at the following areas (Pike, Randolph or Marion counties). I fell in love with a town called Red Bud, but truly am looking first for my kids. They are 8, 7 and 2. Where we currently are, there are so many magnet programs, IB or Gifted schools. I am having trouble finding them in these counties. Anyone know of any in these counties?

Many fell in love with Red Bud when they were young.

I am from Franklin County, and my guess would be that it will be very difficult to find such programs just about anywhere in southern Illinois. If you were going to find them anywhere, it would probably be around Carbondale. I am not aware of anything outside of "gifted classes" offered in the regular public schools in town, but even then the selection was very limited.

There are gifted programs if you go father west, say O'Fallon, Edwardsville, etc. However, since you are going into the small towns, there probably isn't a large school system in the first place, much less a high demand for magnet schools and gifted programs. This is not knocking Red Bud, it is a beautiful town and your kid will get a great education, but when each grade has less than 100 kids, why make a whole other school?
