Hi - We're relocating to Ill, and my husband's main office will be in Rockford. We are looking for some nicer suburbs to live in between there and Chicago (closer to Rockford preferably). Can anybody suggest some nicer suburbs that also have good schools? Thanks.

Rockford and Chicago are about 90 miles apart. Cherry Valley is near Rockford and seems to be well regarded.. It straddles two counties. I suspect where you live will dictate whether or not you send your children to Rockford Schools.

We moved here about a year ago and my husband works in Rockford. You make like the area around Byron (Twp.) in Ogle County - we don't have children ourselves, but the schools are apparently first rate - lots of money comes from Exelon, the schools are new and HUGE. They seem very well invested in their children here - and we are about 90 miles west of Chicago. Properties here have some acreage if you want it, property taxes are reasonable, folks are very friendly here. Don't have the commuter traffic (unless you count tractors and manure spreaders!!), crime rate is extremely low (OUTSIDE of Rockford), and it is about an easy 25-30 drive into Rockford from the country. Is very pastoral, peaceful, and just a beautiful area with lots of parks and easy day trips for the family to enjoy. Good luck....

I like the idea of peaceful and quiet, because I am in the process of relocating to Rockford to under the Section 8 voucher program. Really want to rent a HOUSE and I am unsure what area to look in, I do know I want to live in Rockford.

I have a friend who lives in a neighborhood just off Old School Bell Rd. (or Old Bell School?), there seems to be some newer homes in that area, I found it nice.
