I am moving at the end of the month and havent found a job out there yet. I know its going to be hard to find one since Im still in Southern California, but I am really nervous about moving without having something lined up. Any tips?

If you are ready for Canadian ambient air temperatures and snow, come on up! A national news story last night citied new hirees as being out of work 6 months or less. Companies are not looking for new employees in the long term unemployed pool.

You need to understand you are moving in #1 and #2 corn producing and #1 soybean producing states that also produces livestock. Collectively, Illinois and Iowa has 170,000 farming families. You will not find Tj's, or Whole Foods, or CostCo unless you go to Chicago. There is no Von's or Boney's or ocean breezes on the Mississippi River. You can find a similar type of breeze coming off Lake Michigan in Chicago, and often in Door County - the thumb of Wisconsin, along the Green Bay shorline.

Illinois economy is sluggish except in some areas. I do not advise you to move unless you have family in the quad cities or you have enough money to live on for at least a year.
