U.S. immigration officials have released from federal custody hundreds of suspected illegal immigrants accused or convicted of crimes, including homicide and sexual assault, because of a lack of space and funds, according to internal records.
The data, obtained by the Houston Chronicle through a Freedom of Information Act request, show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials documented releasing suspects classified as “criminal aliens” during the past five years because of resource shortages.
CA might have to let out as many as 43K inmates within the next two years due to budget constraints. they should make a seperate list to try and find the illegals and make sure that once released they are handed ovrer to ICE.

I believe this was one of the governators plans. The number mentioned was about 19,000 illegals incarcerated in California prisons.
The question is will ICE actually deport them if released?
19K? that seems excessive. most get transferred out. maybe those are the ones processed per year. they have immigration detention centers.
i think they can reach a substantial amount of the court mandated number by focusing on the non violent illegals locked up at those detention centers. all those thieves and drug dealers and drunk drivers(approaching their release date) can be put on a bus home instead of being incarcerated.
but it seems silly to do any of this before the border is trully secure.

Looks as though my numbers were,in fact, incorrect.
How about 189k ?
"For fiscal 2009-10, it's estimated that about $834 million will be spent to incarcerate 189,000 illegal immigrants in the state's prison system. In Los Angeles County alone, Supervisor Mike Antonovich says, illegal aliens add up to $550 million annually in criminal justice costs.
Little note has been made that much of California's prison crisis is due to crimes committed by illegal aliens invited in through the sanctuary policies of its major cities and their policies of not allowing local police to notify immigration authorities when suspected illegals are apprehended."
thats impossible. there are only about 150K inmates in the system. today on the train i just read an article about this(la times)
EDIT: that article you linked is garbage by the way.
