I'm sure most of you in K-town have heard about this by now. An ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT working at the Days Inn on Lovell Road has been charged in the death of missing Alabama woman whose body was pulled from the Clinch River in Oak Ridge.
According to the News-Sentinel article online, this guy used his MASTER KEY that he was issued by the hotel to access this girl's room and commit his heinous crimes.
Obviously no background check was done on this guy by the hotel, otherwise it would have been revealed that he is ILLEGAL. How do you not do a THOROUGH background check on someone who has a master key to every guest's room? That hotel, as well as any individual there who was involved in the hiring of this monster, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and sued to the point of bankruptcy.
violence from illegals is an issue for citizens. saying something on CDF is not discrimination. its a compound issue, if ICE did its job they would not be here to do the crime. bringing attention to a serious problem is not a hate crime. people get so used to wiping their feet on you when you say something about it they think something is wrong with you.
I just see it as a non-point. Its more permissible for a citizen to commit a crime than an immigrant? A murder is a murder and the illegal immigrant aspect is just another outlet for scapegoating.
The ICE announced yesterday that the Days Inn would have no charges brought against them as they did do a background check on their employees. They stated in the news article that the social security cards were of such good fake quality that it was easy to see how the Days Inn staff was fooled. When you run those cards the report you get basicaly just tells you that the SS#is valid; it doesn't provide other data that would help determine if it was being used fraudulently or not. I have to credit the wife on turning her husband in. She must have been terrified but did the right thing. This is just a sad, awful story.
Mod Note: A thread about this tragic murder is fine, but if this turns into one about illegal immigrants we will move this thread to the appropriate forum. Please keep in mind that civil posts are welcome but the use of CAPS is considered yelling. Thanks.
The originator of the thread probably came to the forum because this is where the awful crime happened. I don't see anything suspect in that.) His frustration at the porous border is a great concern for this country, not only because of illegals.
What I find most disturbing about this horrendous act is that people with access to guests hotel rooms do not have a fingerprint and background check. Any prior crimes (which there may well have been . . . criminals don't usually start with murder) may have been found then, and his illegal status may have also been discovered. Both would have been grounds for not hiring the man. This family wouldn't be mourning their daughter now.
I commend the wife. She did the right thing, even though her illegal status was going to be uncovered. Of course, she may well have been terrified of living with a man who doesn't think anything of taking a woman's life.
I'm only going to comment to say my heart goes out to the family and friends of this young lady, its a horrible blow and a bad mark for out community and I am deeply saddened by this horrendous murder and I know Justice will prevail.
This is so sad for the family and for that poor young woman who barely got a shot at life. I won't discuss illegals, except to say that there is a growing presence here and it will have very definite, very visible effects. Personally, I think the Day's Inn is culpable, since he was their employee. If someone falls on your walk, you're culpable. And I agree about the fingerprints and more thorough background checks for people with access, though illegals aren't usually in the system. But, wow, I certainly won't take my safety for granted the next time I stay in a hotel.
That's three safe havens that have been violated in Knoxville in about as many months: a church during the hour of worship a school cafeteria before classes and a locked motel room during sleep at night. All tragic, all unrelated and all unforeseen, but all clear indicators that our world is changing and violence walks among us everywhere, even in the safest places in the best parts of town. Add in that shameless gas price gouging during Hurricane Ike and that's four times Knoxville make national headlines looking like a cross between Sodom and the Wild, Wild West. It's a sad commentary on the state of the times.
Pimpy I cant comment on the story because I dont live in TN however Pimpy you are in every right to vent your frustrations.
