I was there (Martha's Vineyard) yesterday talking to residents...& news media.

They have a severe shortage of affordable housing for workers there. Its impacting the ability of businesses to stay open normal hours. Even the famous Oak Bluff flying horses carousel wasn't open yesterday due to labor shortages.

Many businesses & restaurants especially were shuttered, and closed 1 month earlier than normal this season because when the colleges went back into session, they lost too much of their staffs to remain open.

They are bringing in young people from other countries. A waiter we had was from Croatia, & he was being housed in a youth hostel that was leased by his employer...a large high-end hotel.

What the Republicans need to do now that they’ve shot the proverbial starter gun to get the country’s attention is to start sharing what their solutions are to stop illegal immigration. But they need to do it in a way that will appeal to Democratic voters that they are trying to win over (which means a different focus/ message than what’s been done in the past to appeal to the Republican base).

Time will tell if this is a careful move in the game of political chess, or if this is just a political game of 52PickUp.
Nope. Just keep the buses / planes going to DC, MV and Chicago.

This action makes the point better than any words ever could.

I bet the cost of running buses 24/7 is less than the cost of providing for these illegal immigrants. I would be surprised if this calculation has not been done.

Sure it's less expensive than providing care for illegal immigrants. Much cheaper.

Keep the sending busses/planes to sanctuary cities 24/7 particularly the wealthier areas.

DeSantis and Abbott have successfully put a massive spotlight on this issue.

Exactly. It's a massive spotlight and now is the time to take advantage of that. DeSantis and Abbot (or whoever wants to run in 2024 for president) needs to use this opportunity to share their solutions to the problem (or share them again) now that they have a national stage. If they just keep sending people to sanctuary cities, eventually one of two things will happen. 1) The Democrats will seize the opportunity and come up with a solution or spin the narrative (and therefore be the heroes in all this to those moderate swing voters) or 2) It will become old news and fade out of the national spotlight.

That doesn’t work when there’s 4.2 million of them and an open border.

How about have our military troops man the border to stop the invasion? It would be great practice for them, and also the National Guard and Reserves.

Yep, that is where we are now. "The gift of economic illegals and "migrants" never stops taking."

No doubt immigration reform should be done, but it takes both parties of Congress to make that happen. McConnell certainly hasn't had the stomach for it up to this point.
Well, we have 500,000+ citizens that are homeless, some are families, and it includes children. We have people who die in the heat in the cities, because they can't afford A/C as it was not even original equipment with the rising summer temps. We have people who are drowning in debt, working more than one job when they can, as many of the jobs they would have worked, especially part-time are filled by illegal aliens, many of them working under the table.

Many of us, and more joining us are "THE TIRED AND POOR", for which there will be no relief as these economic illegals and immigrants come in for freebies. They are given Medicaid benefits, etc., while citizens bust their butts to provide for these people who came for a free ride, or to work just enough to cover their alcohol expense!

There you go! But then, they weren't running from crime, they were running toward freebies, taxpayers who would support them and their offspring.

Those "people" see a lot of parallels between despots Meduro and Duterte with folks like DeSantis and Abbott, and they like it.

If this stunt wasn't so sickening, you'd have to laugh at the fact that DeSantis and Abbott are effectively shooting themselves in the foot. Those that applaud this ridiculous charade are giving the middle finger to Latinos in the US many of who still have families and friends "down there". If they can't simply execute them, the next best thing is to degrade and humiliate them. It's a bizarre strategy, similar to the pro-life movement. You might solidify the hardcore base with these "issues", but at the end of the day you lose with the general public who want nothing to do with these extremists.
Ah, liberal dreams! Has a problem with pro-life, probably doesn't want to have to support babies born to the poor citizens, but more than happy to support non-citizens that we know nothing about. So liberal!

Most of these coming in are highly uneducated looking for a free ride, so I don't think they are overthinking why they are coming, or what they may encounter, other than free stuff.

Yes, and it makes total sense that those that support economic immigration, "migrants", illegal aliens, etc. get a taste of what they are supporting. The "I support it, just not on my doorstep" crowd, yeah, teach them a lesson. Let them "put their money where their mouth is".

I think this will benefit the GOP across the board, as the Democrats "feel" the pain!
