Some of the candidates for President are running for office telling us that they could end illegal immigration. Because the Congress cant really pass a new immigration law, the President would have to make an effort to end illegal immigration using the current local, state and federal law enforcement capabilities and current laws.

I do not believe that it could be ended but I suspect it could be limited significantly using current laws. We would need funding for significantly more border patrol agents doing interior enforcement and an Arizona type program where all employers must use e-verify and not be allowed to hire anyone is is not a green card holder, or US Citizen. The President would need to be constantly talking about the evils of illegal immigration and be able to stand up to the people who link immigration enforcement to racism.

So, could a strong US President essentially end new ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION using existing laws?

Yes they could. The law is already in place for the fence, they just have to get busy building it. We have laws for work place enforcement, but they need to be enforced.

We need a president with the will to make this happen.

In 1986, Reagan and his Congress promised the American people that sovereign law would be enforced and amnesty would never be thrust upon the American people again.

Twenty years later, we have another president and his congress telling us that these laws are not enforceable and that we have to bite the bullet and accept another 20 million lawbreakers into American society, most of whom have no desire to become assimilated into American culture and prefer to force their culture upon America.

It is absolutely ridiculous and if most Americans weren't so busy watching "Dancing with the Stars" or arguing stupid religious or political ideologies, they would realize that the powers that be are intentionally diverting their attention away from the Balkanization of America to keep them from rioting in the streets.

I'm not happy with the choice of candidates this year, but rather than lodge the protest vote for Leonard Peltier as I did last election, I will vote for whomever will enforce border security and strip away the incentives which keep illegal aliens flowing into the U.S.

If one is not nominated, I guess Leonard will be getting my vote anyway.

Yes they could! That is why it is imperative to elect a president that IS strong and CLEAR on the issue. Those that promise a "path to citizenship" and other catchy amnesty type phrases will just be leaving things as are. We will be no better off. Sooooo remember that when you vote if this is an important issue to you.

But, who would you suggest voting for? None of them will do anything, no matter what they say, don't you think?

I think it's going to be up to the states to deal with the illegal immigration problem, which they are already trying to do. The federal government does NOT want to close the border.

As to the OP question:

IMO, yes, they could put an "end" to illegal immigration -

While there would be those who "sneak" in - the flood we now have could be slowed to a small trickle if one thing was done: Put our military on the border. Give them ROE that are workable including the use of deadly force if they are attacked, in any manner (as our Border Patrol is now being attacked).

We make certain that the governments of other countries know we are serious - you let the UN know we are serious

Yes, IMO, it can be done

i doubt it. heres why.......all presidents do is just "talk talk talk" and not do a damn thing! look at president bush. since 9/11 all he keeps saying is, "we will secure our boarders" blah blah blah. hmmmm lets see, its been what, 7-8 years, correct? sooo tell me, are the boarders secure? hell no! every president just passes the buck and then if anything happens (ie. 9/11) they blame the previous adminstration (president) for not doing enough.

like i have said on another post. the only way to secure our boarders is to militarize it. that is the only way. all this talk about immigration is useless unless our boarders our secure . and the unfortunate fact is this, the only way our president will militarize the boarder is if the unthinkable happens. what is that u ask? how about a nuke that kills a couple of million americans, then.....finally the damn president will do what i have been saying allllllllllllllll along and militarize the boarder .

A strong president could essentially end illegal immigration. Very easily in fact. All he would have to do is put the military (if necessary declare a national emergency to do it) on the border and prosecute the snot out of employers, illegals, and financial institutions that cater to them. Also seizing assets would help tremendously.
