New Mexico's Hispanic governor battles over rules of the road | Reuters

It's ironic that a radical special interest group that believes illegal immigrants have a right to New Mexico's driver's licenses does not believe the governor has a right to free speech," Diaz said. "We disagree."

Martinez, a former prosecutor born to Mexican-American parents in Texas, made cracking down on illegal immigration a centerpiece of her campaign for governor. She said one of her top priorities was repeal of a law passed under her Democratic predecessor, Bill Richardson, that allowed undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.
I like this lady. She did exactly as promised. Unlike many, who make campaign promises only to secure votes, then once in office have amnesia.

So many people confuse privlages with constitutional rights; States have the right to limit [in any form] who can obtain a driver's licence in thier state.

Conversely, states need to be conscience that when they try to limit constitutional right not to shock at, and to accept the outcome.

The governor of New Mexico is legislating thourgh excutive-order[executive branch] what the legislature passed and the previous governor signed. If the people of New Mexico truly wanted this change, the representitive legislature, could have repealed the law. Although the governor is voted in by the people, the people did not vote her in on this one issue.

The governor has aready "been over-ruled" by the courts on her executive orders which she signed with help from the Dairy industry to halt pending regulations on that industry.

Its always best to let the legislators legislate, and the executive branch enforce the laws. Keeps the NM Supreme court from having to do extra work....

What?

Did the residents of New Mexico vote to offer the “privilege” of driving a car to illegal aliens, or was it a gift from Richardson? He is no longer the governor. Moreover, NM is only one of a few states issuing licenses to illegals. Most likely, soon, no state will issue a DL to foreign interlopers, and rightly so.
