Moving to Fairfield ID from Texas. Any input what to expect? How is the town? Is there ample water in the area?

Moving without doing research on the place? That's brave. Are you with the USFS?

It's a tiny town. Very tiny. There's a few diners, a gas station, and not much else. However, it backs up to some incredible outdoor recreation. It's the gateway to the Smoky's. Great camping, ATV'ing, snowmobiling, and some hot springs. You have an incredible run all the way from the Black's Creek Danskins, the Trinities, Soldier Mtn, the SF Boise River, Anderson Reservoir, Pine, Featherville, Baumgartner, Big Smoky, all the way into Sun Valley/Ketchum.

You're 30-40 minutes from Bellevue and Hailey. 30 minutes to Gooding. 20 minutes to Mormon and Magic Reservoirs.

The Camas Prairie is beautiful.

Beyond the three reservoirs, not a lot of water in the immediate area, but enough within an hour's drive (including the Big Wood River and Boise River).

It gets windy and cold there. There's some farming and ranching. Not much else going on for work.

If I was a (very) small town guy, Fairfield would be near the top of my list. It's just in a great spot. But I'm not a small town guy, and Fairfield is very small and fairly remote.

My husband worked there in 2006 (with the the USFS) before I met him. He says there's also a company that makes irrigation piping that's probably the second biggest employer after the forestry service.

Tiny is right. About 380 people, but it's the only city (and the county seat) in Camas county.
It's in beautiful country, but its high, the winters are long and snowy, and sometimes Hwy. 20 is closed during the winter.

yeah let us know how it goes. I had a friend and his family (friend of my family all of them) who lived up there. Gets a ton of snow or used to anyway. Great recreation and as the others said a few diners and a gas station.
