I suggest doing a wikipedia search on both as a start. I just checked both cities there and found the info to be accurate, as far as my own knowledge goes. The info agreed with all the Idaho history I received as a student in Idaho schools.

The earth shook and the seas receded, then the Snake River slowly cut the canyon. Then Evil Knievel tried to jump it. That didn't go so well. Then they rebuilt the bridge crossing the Snake River. And that's about all I want to write down cause the rest is freely available online.
