If you live in Shelley proper and wish to be heard on the matter of permitting up to 6 laying hens per property, or to support those who wish to amend the City Regs to permit this, please come to City Hall tonite at 7:30pm.

Thank you!!

Hi NCM,

I missed your post and the meeting. How did it go? You're considered in Shelley proper? Hmm, I'll have to look at those boundaries again. I imagine those jam packed streets with more than 10-15 house/street wouldn't want everyone to have 6 chickens. But, my general understanding of where you are.... what's the problem?

Let me know how the meeting went.

Thanks,

MSR

Went great, my suggestions are to phrase the regulations to address:
1. Minimum Lot Size
2. Minimum Setback
3. Requirement to Coop or Pen
4. Requirement for Laying Hens only, no roosters!
5. Creation of "volunteer" "Chicken Master," ie someone to field issues so people like me don't bug the Shelley PD
6. Requirement for Cruelty Free Coops (ie no frozen chicken)

We don't have an animal control officer, so #5 is pretty important. And woe to the chicken who tresspasses chez moi!

This issue will be re-visited at this months council meeting.
