OK, more photos and details released on the Forte, the replacement for the Spectra. The sloping hood and windshield reminds me of the new Civic, the rear half reminds me of the current Corolla. The difference is, from what I see, is that THIS is what Toyota should have done to make the new Corolla. The exterior offers slightly more styling than the current Corolla without being an "in your face" kiddy racer look. From the photos, the interior looks very good as well. There's a model of Corolla that TRIES to be a kiddy racer but fails horribly. There's another model of Corolla that tries to be a mini-Avalon. If I'm going to pay that price I'll buy an entry level Camry. This Forte will be on my list of vehicles to look into this fall.
Oh, and the Forte's base engine has about the same HP as the sport model Corolla while the optional engine is 2.4 L and has about 170 hp. No word on how it handles or pricing yet.
Oh, before Toyota fans come in screaming, notice I said "aiming". The look of the interior and exterior is what I feel the Corolla should have been. The engine power numbers is what the Corolla should have been. But as for ride quality and build quality, that is what will decide if Kia built a better Corolla than Toyota.
I've got a good buddy that's a parts/service manager for a local Kia dealership. He says that Kia has really stepped up its quality in the last 203 years, which was necessary and is good.
Kia & Hyundai are no longer the jokes they initially were.

203 years, huh? lol but yeah both companies have stepped it up big time in the last 2-3 years and are now the best buys in multiple segments.
Kia has some very drastic design upgrades arriving now like this Forte, but also the new Sorento, Soul, and the No. 3 concept.
They're moving along much faster than Hyundai as far as design goes.
Kia has a long ways to go before it is a toyota or honda. The corolla and the civic are about the best basic transportation vehicles out there. that is why you see alot of makers trying but after years you see tons of civics and corollas still on the road loking good. the others look like junk cars way past their prime.
Their rate of improvement is gaining speed so Toyota and Honda need to watch their back. I only wish GM and Chrysler's rate of improvement would be half as fast.
Total Honda/Acura in the front, decently original in the rear.
Id take it over a Corolla anyday. Corollas are the automotive equivalent of a heavy sedative.
