My accent with a 1.6 engine has some kind of pressure release while accelerating in 1st gear with the a/c on. (Auto trans)
The noise is like a pressure relief valve on an air compressor. But very short in duration.
The more acceleration, the louder the noise.
From drivers position, it sounds like the noise is coming from passenger side foot boards. Below the glove compartment.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
TIA

sounds like bad news. hyundai engines from this era had a lot of problems. sorry to hear that about your car, but this is par for the course for late 2000's korean cars.

My guess it is an exhaust leak. Take it in. Would love to hear how it works out.
