Hi! My girlfriend bought a ‘18 Sonata and her only complaint is the fact the volume on the radio goes to a near mute level when you put the car in reverse. I drive it frequently too and this “feature” annoys the heck outta me too. I’ve looked at the controls and can’t seem to find an option to disable this. Am I missing something obvious about it? Thanks!
Yeah, that's the default setting in Hyundais and Kias. There's a setting in the dash to change it, but the idea is to dim out the music so you pay attention to the screen and your surroundings when you back up.
I've never noticed that on my '17, though I probably don't turn the radio on or up until after I've left my parking space and on my way. I'll have to check that out tomorrow.
But it wouldn't bother me in the slightest to find mine does that, too. Sounds like a good, sensible safety feature. The fewer distractions, the better when backing up.
I have a pair of 2014 kia soul's .. in reverse, music does go down.... im curious crownvic95, does your sonata have the nav system? maybe its linked into that unit

Perhaps so.
No, mine doesn't have anything I'd call a nav system, though I'm not exactly sure what that is.
Check in the menu for the settings, maybe it was changed?
Searched this morning and found no such setting. No reference to it anywhere that I could find in my owner's manual and found nothing about it in a quick (not exhaustive) google search.
I have a back-up camera that, of course, activates in reverse. For those who have the sound reduction, do you have a back-up camera? Just throwing out other possibilities as it's strange that some of you report it, but I don't have it and I find nothing about it in documentation.
