The new Accent handles pretty well. It is a light year better than the one I rented a few years back.

If I had a car with 200k miles, I would be at the various rental agencies finding dirt-cheap weekend rentals of the models that I would be interested in owning. Long weekend test drives are the best way to determine what cars will meet your needs.

I admit Hyundais look pretty good inside/out but would I trust it to go 100k miles problem free? No. I fully expect to have several problems according to their owners..... at least the repair is free.

For me to consider a Hyundai over a Honda, they would need to at least match Honda's fuel efficiency and reliability. I probably wouldn't consider one for at least another 10 years.

I am still waiting for the car that has no problems in 100k miles.

My Toyota Corolla has 98k and is on its third water pump and its third front door gasket.

The Honda Civic had multiple paint issues after 25k ... And they are the masters of the "secret warranty."

We've owned 10 Hondas and never had a single problem (other than 1 recall) before 100k miles. All reached 150k-200k miles without a single problem before we sold them. I don't think a paint problem qualifies as a mechanical issue. Plus I'm sure it's not as bad as our Ford whose paint would "bleed" red each time I washed it.

I doubt we would have gotten the same flawless experience out of Hyundais. Plus they've been caught fudging their MPG numbers while we've gotten better than the posted MPG for our Hondas. Not saying Hyundai are a bad car, they just aren't as good as Honda.

^^^

I wish I had a $1 for every Honda or Toyota owner who tells me that 1) he has had no problems with his vehicle or 2) has to spend nothing on repairs and maintenance on his vehicle.

After a few questions, they need maintenance just like every vehicle. And the engine on my sister's 2006 Honda Accord failed at 42k.

Honda has had plenty of problems...particularly transmission problems, but when you really question owners, they will tell you about other issues as well.

Perception becomes reality for most people.

If you're old enough think back to the 60's and 70's when GM was King.
GM was the blonde haired, blue-eyed "All American" boy....they could do no wrong and owners would proudly ramble on about amazing feats routinely accomplished by their cars.

Toyota and Honda was nothing more than "cheap Japanese Junk" that will never last. Dismissed.

Hyundai and Kia have simply replaced them today. But if you look at all the Hyundai's and Kia's on the road today and really talk with people that own them, you'll conclude that they are the modern day toyota and honda.

My original plan was to get a Kia Soul. However, my situation changed and I needed a car right away. I found a 2013 Hyundai Accent hatchback with 42k miles. It still has 2 years left of powertrain warranty, roadside assistance, etc.

My car is black and it looks like this:

I just went over 200k on my 2003 Focus. Nothing major. I had a new exhaust system last year and new front wheel bearing 2 weeks ago. I paid about 9k out the door in 2004 so I think I got my money's worth.

It is spacious than you would think. It's horn is not much effective but can work. It has good pickup and great mileage.

I have a 12 Accent with 62k miles. Its been completely trouble free.

OH well just one thing- the GDI engine needs super unleaded gas or it knocks going up hills. Really sucks or it would be a totally great little car.
