It typically takes me until the fall to even ride in a vehicle of the next model year. Dealership owned vehicles not included. Owning one in Feb is incredible.
Examples:
First 2015 - Acura MDX, Oct 19, 2014
First 2014 - Acura RLX, Mar 5, 2014 (first dealer owned: another RLX, Mar 15, 2013)
First 2013 - Nissan Altima, Dec 6, 2012
First 2012 - Nissan Altima, Sept 26, 2011
I guess I am lucky to have the 2016 then! I was very close to getting a new 2015, but when I read the reviews between the 2015 and 2016, I opted for the '16. And I am very glad that I did, because it's awesome!
It's hard to compare prices with the Highlander, because the 2016 doesn't seem to be available yet, and the prices given are not definite. From my research though, it seems the Highlander will run about 10K more with all features I got in the Kia (V6 engine, AWD, back-up cam, heated leather seats, remote start, etc). Not too shabby for someone on a budget.
In the SXL trim, the KIA is only $2500 less than the Highlander LE on KIA’s own web site. What did you pay for yours?
Yes, the resale value is worrisome to me also, but I just hope it will be a safe and reliable car for me, and it will last awhile (fingers crossed).
Comparing to the Highlander, I didn't do extensive research comparing each trim, I was just comparing the MSRP ranges for all models. Also, I was comparing it with the estimated prices of what the 2016 will be of the Highlander. I thought it was most fair to consider the prices of the same year. I cannot attach my screenshots I took with the comparison, but the Kia is 25-43k, and the Highlander is 38-48k (estimated). I got mine for about 31k, but I got a really great deal for the model I ended up with.
To each his own though, as the saying goes. Some people wouldn't be caught dead driving a Kia (that was me 10 years ago), and I can respect that. I just want to put it out there for someone that may be considering a Sorento, or looking for a reasonably priced CUV.
Man i'm so mad at myself i didn't even know the 2016 model was out yet so i just went ahead and got the 2015, Exactly a week later i see the 16' model was out. Oh well, How are you enjoying it? I like the panoramic roof on it and the front def sexy - what more did they add?

The 3.3 'Lambda' V6 has been used in the Azera for a few years now and it seems to be a pretty reliable engine. It's a slightly downsized version of the 3.8 used in the Genesis.
Kia release their cars early for some reason and often times they release them every other year. I got a 2011 Sorento in Oct. 2010 and there was no 2012 model go figure
Is the new Sorrento built on a truck Chassis or car chassis. I had a 2003 that was built on a truck chassis and it was rugged
I'm pretty sure it's car based like most other CUV's now.
