I do agree that some of the posts were decent enough food for thought, but the arrogance and gradiosity was offensive and unnecessary while setting them forth.

Y'all probably won't be getting rid of me anytime soon!
Well, darn!

My only kid (with wife and two grans) lives in the NW Atlanta burbs, so a 3 hour drive away (would be 2 hours with a freeway all the way, but one can only wish). I'd like them to be here, but I like Huntsville so much I'll just stay here. Don't have to put up with Atlanta traffic by staying here.

I'd love to see Atlanta at some point, but I sure would be glad to get back to Huntsville. It looks to me like the changes downtown will be a good thing. I'm just against over developing things, because, ya know.......

Every time I go downtown I think to myself, dang this is a nice little city!! So livable. And pretty.

The scales don't always disappear. Voluntarily changing the user status to "Not a member" is a big no-no, and likely to turn the fantasy into a reality.

I grew up in Marietta and I only go there now to visit relatives. Every time I go back to the Atlanta area, I am reminded to be thankful that I moved here all those years ago.

I do my best to stay North of Canton when I am travelling to the Mountains.

It's going to be a lot better once they get the old Coca Cola property up and going. I think it's called Front Door or something like that. Looks like a really nice development.

We're fortunate that we don't have the issues that other cities seem to have. I'd say that typically those moving in are professionals so I don't think we'll see crazy things any time soon. Hope that's not famous last words.

It can be interesting to see the city from the POV of an outsider. This Youtuber visited.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXJ6DYHEM5Y

The points that stood out were:

The core city is walkable, has apartments, is people/pedestrian friendly.
There are no skyscrapers (which end up ruining any walking city).
There are really good neighborhoods within walking distance of downtown.

My takeaway is that there may be a sweet spot on population density and building size that Huntsville currently enjoys.

Nice to see somebody else's view/experience of our area. I'm glad he did see and show the areas west of downtown that hasn't experienced the renovations. As the narrator said, Huntsville is not perfect.

Well, I was in town lately for multiple days by myself, and had time to burn. We visit family there all the time, but we usually don't get out and about much. First time I had really ridden around downtown, the area west of the parkway, and then out there around Research Park/Top Golf area. The difference from when I left in 2010 is staggering. It may not be perfect as far as compared to the whole country, but I can't imagine anywhere better in the deep south (as in LA, MS, TN, AL, GA). Nashville is Nashville I guess. Haven't been to NW Arkansas or Raleigh-Durham lately, so can't really speak to those. But I was impressed. I know the school situation is what it is, but that's an issue all over the country.

I think the biggest difference has happened between the beginning of COVID and now. There was always growth, but it's gone exponential here lately.

But speaking to the OP's issues, I think the biggest negative to HSV is, and has always been, PLANNING. But it's the planning that should have been done since the beginning. Since then, I think they've made good decisions.

We may be nearing that sweet spot point now, but can probably keep growing for a while before the negatives come into play. One factor is that just about everybody that's moving in is professional of one sort or the other, perhaps engineering dominating. I don't want the city to get so big that we start having the issues that others have with dangerous crime and homeless lining the streets. And I don't think we're heading that way anytime soon. Even now, we have just about every amenity that we could want - MidCity being a prime example, especially the amphitheater.

One thing missing is a reasonable road system so we can get where we're going fairly easily. And some drivers could use lessons in the rules of the road and courtesy.
