I know one of Huntsvilles nicknames is the "cave city". Any suggestions on good cave tours in the area?

There is a viewing stand for a bat cave on the way to Guntersville. Really cool to watch them emerge but bring a raincoat.

Cathedral Caverns close to Grant. It is one of the best caves anywhere and they have tours throughout the day.

The National Speleological Society is headquartered in Huntsville; they may provide some information:

National Speleological Society

Also, there are concerts and events at Three Caves in the Blossomwood neighborhood:

There's a cave somewhere nearby in Tennessee that we spent the night in when my son was in Indian Guides. That was quite an experience ....

Yes, I think that's the one. I remember when we went in, it was sleeting but nice and cozy (55ish) in the cave.

I also heard of one up near the Walls of Jericho called Tumbling Rock.

Unfortunately, they closed Sequoyah Caverns in Valley Head before I got the chance to go see it.

Russell Cave is a National Park in NW Alabama near Bridgeport. It is mainly about Indians who lived there hundreds of years ago. There are no cave tours normally available. There is a trail leading to excavations at the mouth of the cave but you can't go in the cave.

Just outside Chattanooga is Raccoon Mountain and Raccoon Cave where they do various cave tours. It is a private outfit. My son's scout troop took one of the tours there several years ago. There are similar cave tour opportunities, including overnight group outings, at Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville TN between Chattanooga and Nashville. North of Chattanooga is Lost Sea where you can ride a row boat in an underground lake.

Also south of town, near B'ham, is Rickwood Caverns State Park. I have been there but it was 30 years ago.

Do you mean Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville TN? They schedule group overnight stays in the cave all year round. Before bed they have a regular guided cave tour. Optionally, they have a wild cave tour. There is a guide but there are no lights other than the flashlight your carry. Also, you have to wear a hard hat for safety.

BTW, I spent the night inside the cave 30 years ago.The fee included supper (a hotdog) and breakfast (cereal). We were asked to bring a sleeping bag, water, and a flashlight.
