Madison is coming out better than Amarillo's recent MiLB lease agreement.

Quote:
After weeks of negotiations, the City of Amarillo and the Elmore Sports Group have agreed upon a 30-year lease for the new Double A minor league baseball team to begin play in a new $45.5 million downtown stadium in 2019.

The Elmore Sports Group, which will operate locally under the name of the Panhandle Baseball Club, Inc., will pay the city $400,000 annually beginning on April 1, 2019, and ending Dec. 31, 2048, with $175,000 going to the debt on the stadium and $225,000 going into a capital expenditure maintenance fund.
Madison has a 30 year lease with BallCorp paying $1,000,000 annually.

So the managing partner of the new Madison baseball team moves here and buys a house in (drum roll please) Huntsville. "he thought when they bought it they were making an offer in Madison."

As Madison baseball stadium project progresses, team ownership is moving in and ready for team to follow | WHNT.com

I wonder if Mr. Nelson is planning to send his kids to private schools. Pretty hard to imagine a top level executive being so careless about a home purchase, so I'm thinking this is not the real story.

Does it matter? He's living locally, that's the important thing.

Why? It isn't like its never happened before. It doesn't appear that he has school age children, so he probably didn't pay attention to the school district and just went by the mailing address.

This brings up something I've been meaning to ask the realtors on this board. I frequently do Valley MLS searches and use Madison in the search engine. Many of the hits that come up list Madison as the city but when you look at the schools they are clearly Huntsville schools or sometimes even Limestone County schools. This happens far too often for it to be a simple mistake. Is this done intentionally by the listing agent because they know Madison is a desirable location? If so, it seems a bit unethical.

Or is it possible to have a Madison mailing address but not be in the Madison school system?

Just curious.

Many houses have Madison mailing addresses that are not in Madison City. It's based on the closest post office I believe.

City of Madison needs to step in and prevent this mess. What a mistake this stadium will be. No baseball in town is better than a raw deal. Look no further than what the Braves are doing in Pearl, MS.

Any new stadium needs to be built downtown. This is so obvious.

I recognize that Madison is probably trying to one-up Huntsville or whatever, but those towns need to realize that they need each other. Huntsville is the anchor city, Madison is the suburb, it will always be that way.

I would agree except the City of Madison made the mess, so not likely they will prevent anything. Town Madison is going nowhere except for residential and apartments. Maybe this is a way to divert attention from TM's failure to gain traction as a retail or commercial center.

I don't care where he lives. I just think it's weird that he says he didn't know which city until after the fact. I would expect the agent would be very careful to ensure the buyer knows the municipality and school district for the home.

Do the parts of Huntsville south of Madison along Zierdt Road actually have Madison mailing addresses? I know that is common for the county and parts of Huntsville north of 72.
