No, that guy seems terribly misinformed most of the time and he's the president of Breland Companies. You'd think he'd know exactly what is coming and when it's coming, but he's batting about a buck fifty the past three years.

Also, if I were a Madison resident, I'd be getting a little worried about how much money the city is potentially on the hook for related to the stadium and TM development. Ceci mentioned in another article that they were considering issuing bonds to pay for the rest of the interchange. Madison is already in for $43 million on the stadium and could get close to that amount on the interchange if they aren't careful. Some may point out that city isn't actually paying for the infrastructure. Well, they are paying for it out of tax revenues that would be going into the city coffers were they not reimbursing Breland for the infrastructure outlay.

But to be fair a developer never tips his hand until agreements are signed. Think Ceci in his excitement may have, and now has to be vague and non committal.

The good news is that the Trash Pandas are current with payments they owe the City of Madison.
Mayor Paul finely says now the team is caught up on payments.

“The Ballcorps team has paid everything from 2020 so we are up to date from last year and they are on track of 2021 payments that are due,” says Mayor Finley.

How much do other cities in the state have to pay if a new interchange is needed because of or to stimulate economic development?

unless I'm mistaken none unless its in Baldwin County. Huntsville with our Restore our Roads program which without, 5 projects would not be built, the Town Madison flyovers. This from a proposed project in Gadsden back in 2008! which was never built.

After the meeting Harris said “scores” of locations have been justified for interchanges throughout the state but have not been done because of a lack of funding.
He said if private funding was available for a project, that would move up a project’s priority.

Harris said he was not aware of a developer building an interstate interchange in the state, but the state is interested in public-private partnerships. He said he believes the state will approve letting a private firm do the project.
Harris said if the department determined the need for an interchange, the project could be turned over to a contractor.
“I still don’t think it could be done in any less than two years,” Harris said.

The Breland guy estimated 2 years for the flyover (he didn't mention the one entering from the east), which seems like a long time for 1/4 of an interchange. I believe he said by the opening of the Trash Pandas 2023 season, which is about 1.5 years. But presumably that's if it could get started right away.

How's the new one on the east side of Montgomery progressing?

You mean the one that can be seen from Atlanta on I-85?

I've seen two different estimates from Ceci that were included in two different articles this week. One said 13 months and the other said 14 months. ALDOT's Curtis Vincent told me it would take roughly 18 months to build those two ramps at the public information meeting for the I-565 "widening" project close to two years ago. That was his pre-COVID estimate. I have no idea if the shortages of material and labor and increases in material costs would impact that timeline. It's a pretty good bet though that if they haven't started by the early spring of next year, they aren't going to be finished by the start of the 2023 Trash Panda season.

This is also not a project where the contractor can take short cuts and do things at an accelerated pace for the most part. All of the work is atop an active interstate or right beside an active interstate. Safety measures will restrict what can be done and when and will obviously dictate a slower pace than what could be expected if the environment were different.
