If You are moving to Huntsville; the best advice is dont move. why? look at the crime rate first of all. it is way above average in every aspect. Real estate agents want you to move here so they can make their commission off you. meanwhile the realestate prices are not cheap anymore. This used to be a good place until everyone brought their problems here such as gangs. The streets are well on their way to being overcrowded even on saturdays. If you are going to move here just dont let it be from any of these profitiers telling you its the best place for familys. Read the data, watch the news and see how huntsville is being overpumped up for these pump and dump developers.

Is the crime rate really that bad? Do people in Huntsville actually feel nervous (I don't.)
Of course real estate agents want to make a commision. They key is, make the realtors work for their commission - especially at the negotiation table. Only a sucker would get bent out of shape about this.

Streets overcrowded? You're kidding right?

It is pretty good for families, good schools, stable employment for the parents, no traffic. Lots of sports leagues.

Compare Huntsville's unemployment numbers with other cities.

It's not the prettiest city in the world. It doesn't have the best weather in the world. But most of the stuff that matters is here.

Here is a great tool to see Greatschools school ratings on a google map interface. (you may have to change the zip in the URL to recenter the map)

School Search Widget - GreatSchools

The only caveat is that if 2 schools (2 separate buidings) are on the same campus (address), the map only shows one rating. You need to checkmark the grade school you're looking at.

For example, Chapman Elem. and Chapman Middle - the marker only shows the middle school rating when both schools are checkmarked.
The problem is when 2 same-type schools are on the same campus: Columbia High (6 GS) and New Century Technology Demo HS - the IB (9 GS) , the map only shows the "6".

If the schools are combined (e.g. Providence k-8), then only one rating is shown (as it is at GS website)

Yes, very affordable. Electricity is seven to eight cents per kilowatt-hour.

This is a new "community calendar" website that seems more comprehensive than the the Visitor Bureau's (huntsville.org). You can filter on "type", and includes other aspects of city life than a visitor's perpective (nightlife, YP, sports, church)
