Can anyone point me in the direction of Energy industry groups where I can network? I am new to the area and new to the Oil and Gas sector and I'd like to start making contacts, learning about the area's opportunities, and building a network...

I'd hit the bars in Midtown thats where a number of Energy folk go...see Pub Fiction or the Front Porch Pub. I think a lot of suburbanites pollute Washington Avenue.

You could go to some of the Carbon Trading meetings.....

For pure entertainment value only of course.

I can't really think of bars/places that we are all just hanging out with big badges saying "Looking me, I'm in Oil." Social Work outings usually involve things like Purvin & Gertz and LPG Marketers functions. Golf, hunting and fishing of course.

Are you in the industry looking for contacts, or trying to make contacts to get in the industry?

Steve does have a point about the cycling though. A lot of us ride.

I'm in the industry, but am looking into changing companies.

So where do you ride? I've done some Sprint triathlons but would like to get into more distance cycling. Oooh, but first I'll have to fix my road bike up a bit.

Note from the REAL chicagomama- the above was posted by my husband who does not have an account. I just showed him the post because he was interested in the cycling and didn't know he would respond in my name! haha.

I always thought the best "networking" comes through family, people you grew up with and those you were close to in college (frats./sororities, clubs, political groups, etc). Growing up in Sugar Land and graduating from Clements gave me a network better than what you would find in most bars in Houston. Who are you more likely to help find a job? Someone you've known since age 9? Your daughter who graduated from UT?...Or someone you met in a bar in Midtown two weeks ago?
