Hello,
I am looking at building on a lot that is approximately .7 miles from a Wastewater Plant. My husband and I have two little ones...1 and 3 years old. Are there any health risks associated with living within close proximity of a Wastewater Plant? Risks of contamination? Anything else I should consider before purchasing the lot?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have a problem, they wouldn't exist if their were problems.

Default No problem...

If you don't mind he smell of sewage now and again. You will eventually smell it, especially during the hot, sweltering nights in Houston if you live anywhere North of it due to the Southerly winds we get in Houston at all times except Winter. If there were other choices, I'd consider those.

.7 miles is plenty of distance. WWTP odors tend to stick around the immediate area if any exist. It would be rare to get any that far away. There are around 400 WWTPs, from very small to very large, in Harris County and few people realize how close they live to one.

I live in Pearland where most folks say it stinks like the landfill and I'm still alive.

You might want to visit at different times of the day and weather conditions to get an idea of the smell and how much that will bother you.

It doesn't make sense to go by other's opinions; especiallly on an online forum. It's easy for someone at a computer to say "Sure, no problem, go for it".

Heightsian is right. And you should visit weekdays and weekends too. Conditions could be worse at different times. But really though, that's just the air quality, and only half the story.

Texas is notorious for lax restrictions, lax maintenance, and lax policing. And there's no way to ignore a much-increased risk of waste material getting into the water supply. Think of that when you enjoy your tainted tap water.

My family and I sure wouldn't live that close to such a place. Accept at your own risk!
