Apartments? Given the restrictions these "apartments" are likely to have I imagine chronic homelessness will continue if just because these individuals don't lack housing simply from lack of money...

Sure, the towers would've probably had to go up instead of out due to the restricted amount of space BUT it would've made The Woodlands a little more dense.

Now, density comes with its own set of problems (people have noted traffic a few times in the previous posts) but I think it would've helped The Woodlands Town Center become a little more robust.

I used to work and go to law school downtown and I can honestly say that while downtown (for a CBD) is spread out, it's completely walkable. I've walked from Discovery Green to Market Square Park and it was a pretty enjoyable experience. It probably could've been made more enjoyable had there been more restaurants, street front coffee shops, retail, etc. along the way but oh well! The Woodlands has the opportunity to build up (like a CBD) but incorporate space into those projects for those pedestrian friendly kind of things...especially along its waterway district since it's currently expanding (unlike DT Houston which is already well established and much harder to develop). Then again, maybe that's not what The Woodlands is going for.

Currently, my job has me in DT Conroe (yes it exists) instead of DT Houston (yes it exists :P ). I don't know much about DT Conroe but it seems like, even though it's smaller than The Woodlands Town Center, it seems like Conroe is more established and has much more existing infrastructure than The Woodlands does (or at least did). I wonder why Apache and El Paso and many of the other companies who call The Woodlands home didn't set up shop in Conroe. It's not much farther away and had left The Woodlands mall to be just that: a mall on the outskirts of town. DT Conroe is quite charming and has a lot of store front/pedestrian friendly space so it would be much easier to transform it into an urban center than it would be to just BUILD an urban center from the ground up. Plus, imagine what Conroe would've looked like w/ all the construction cranes around it.
I think it will be very difficult for The Woodlands Town Center to develop like a traditional downtown because of the street layout. Traditional dense downtowns have a grid pattern while The Woodlands Town Center will develop more like Uptown Houston.

Downtown Conroe probably won't grow much because any new development will probably be developed along 45. I'd love to see Conroe grow more because it's in a great area and far enough from Houston to have it's own identity.

AGREED! I can see how The Woodlands would develop like Uptown did. Conroe is lucky enough to have a little bit of topography.
